Editing Services
Editorial Analysis
Evaluation of the manuscript based on the extent to which it is likely to engage targeted readers, and its editorial strengths and weaknesses. Expert evaluation of the following, as well as a specific recommendation of the level of editorial service recommended for the manuscript (if any):
• Appropriateness of content for the intended readership
• General strengths and weaknesses of the manuscript relevant to engaging the target audience
• Structure and organization
• Likely effectiveness of writing style and level as it impacts pacing and reader comprehension
• Writing mechanics and language usage issues involving grammar, syntax, punctuation, and spelling
• Permissions
• Documentation, bibliography, sourcing notes, references, and citations
• $200 flat rate
Mechanical Editing
The purpose of this level of editing is to prepare an already well-structured manuscript for publication. A mechanical edit may address any of the following, as needed:
• Correct errors in spelling
• Correct errors in punctuation
• Correct errors in grammar
• Correct errors in capitalization
• Identify some basic language usage issues
• Suggest changes in word choice
• $0.01 per word
Structural Editing
This level of editing is recommended primarily for manuscripts needing attention to organization, presentation, and sentence structure to clarify meaning and smooth the flow of the text. Mechanical issues are addressed in the later copy edit stage. The organizational edit may address any of the following, as needed:
• Suggest improvements to the organization and presentation of material to enhance the reader's experience with the content.
• Identify information that may need citations and/or permissions
• Check formatting of references cited
• Flag terms or phrases that may convey an unintended meaning
• Identify inconsistencies or contradictions within the text
• Suggest more extensive rewording and restructuring of sentences
• $0.02 word
Comprehensive Editing
The Comprehensive Editing process includes all the editing phases shown above. This editing service is recommended for manuscripts with a solid conceptual foundation that would benefit from more extensive structural, organizational, and developmental work. This edit provides recommendations for more substantial changes to improve the manuscript. Later stages of editing in this process provide more detailed assistance with the presentation of content as well as the writing mechanics.
